Web Courses Bangkok | A place that helps you grow your ideas

Your children’s jobs haven’t been invented yet

Did you know that according to a report by the U.S. Department of Labour, most schoolchildren these days will be employed in jobs that haven’t yet been invented? Most of these jobs will almost certainly involve technology yet to be invented in such fields as robotics, nanotechnology, and big data analysis. That in itself sounds intimidating. So, what can you do now?

There’s already a huge technological generation gap between parents and their children and even between older siblings separated by only a few years of age, so understanding the basics of how technology is changing the world around us has become a must. And all this for practical reasons: e-commerce, automated subscription websites, dropshipping, Internet of things, and social media marketing.

If you’re not familiar with all these concepts, then it’s time to upgrade. Of course you can pay someone a huge sum of money to build your website, but in two-three year’s time, you’ll need to redesign and upgrade it, so it’s better to learn how to do it yourself. There are many free and paid tutorials online that can coach you step by step, but there’s nothing more efficient than a face-to-face class.

Enter Web Courses Bangkok (WCB)

For expats and Thais alike, there’s no better web/graphic design school in Bangkok than Web Courses Bangkok (WCB), which just celebrated its 9th anniversary. The establishment was founded by Carl Heaton, a British web designer, who has been calling Thailand his home for the past eleven years.

“For me, web design was born from my love of writing. I loved the romance of writing poems, short stories, and plays by candlelight. The idea of creating something from nothing by putting words together intrigued me. One day, at a friend’s house, he showed me this program (MS Front Page) that could link pages, insert pictures and change the design. As soon as I clicked that blue underlined text, another page appeared and my head exploded with ideas,” recalled Carl.

After meeting his future Thai wife in Brighton, Carl moved to Bangkok where he worked as a project manager for a small agency. When two of the company’s staff left to continue their studies, Carl was tasked with finding replacements: “The quality of the people we interviewed was far below what I had come to expect internationally. I had already been teaching since I was 18 so I put two and two together and thought why not start a web design school to help improve the quality of web designers and developers here in Thailand.”

A place to “grow your ideas”

This idea of his has grown so big that it now attracts people from all over the world. WCB has helped around 2000+ students from over 15 countries and these numbers are going up as they are hiring more teachers to help with the increase in demand for their courses. At the moment, WCB has nine teachers, three admin, one agency manager, one director, two designers, three developers, and a cleaner. Apart from that, WCB offers great internship opportunities, with three or four interns at one time who help with writing content, researching, maintenance and projects. Bottom line, Web Courses Bangkok is a vibrant school where awesome people help you “grow your ideas,” which in fact is the school’s motto.

Over the years, WCB has managed to build a good reputation by putting students’ needs first. “I always say that if you help the person in front of you, you impress the people behind them,” explained Carl when asked what is the source of their success. “When we teach, we put 100% into helping the students grow ideas. It’s not just a place to learn code but to learn when and how to use it. Our one-to-one classes are where we really make some amazing differences to people’s lives. Another thing is the support we give. I still get emails for help from students we taught over eight years ago!”

Most popular courses web and graphic design courses

Among the many courses they offer, the Social Media Marketing courses is most popular these days. But the Web Professional Course is also extremely popular and is usually fully booked one or two months in advance. But, according to Carl, who is still involved in the teaching part as an instructor, the one course that everyone enjoys is the Build It With Us, where you can make a complete website with the help of an expert instructor who will guide you and make that dream project come true.

Maybe one of the reasons why Web Courses Bangkok has struck such a chord with the Bangkok society at large is because of their understanding of what Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) really means. They have given staff training amounting to tens of hours and have build/redesigned the websites of Camillian Care Home, BKK Free Ambulance, and Bangkok Community Theatre.

“We are actually looking out for a new charity to support and we are already talking to some amazing organizations,” confessed Carl. “Also, we have introduced the requirement for our web professional students to do a group charity project. So, every time we run the course, our students help up to three charities! That is over 12 charities a year we can look forward to helping build brand new websites or just a nice re-design.

too many digital nomads, myself included, get caught up in their own thing and don’t try to better themselves

courses like these could really help….. too bad i am so lazy lol

  • There are many options to one-on-one courses. For digital nomads, online courses might make more sense… Don’t get complacent in your situations, things might not be that awesome in the future. We never know what Google has in mind for us!
