The prices for the campgrounds range from free to $30, depending on the season that you’re going to camp in.

2. White Mountain National Forest – New Hampshire

Next up, we’re going to move down the coast a bit towards New Hampshire with the White Mountains. These mountains are perfect if you’re looking for a more rustic experience for your next camping expedition. This is best for those of you looking for a bit of a hiking challenge, as the mountains are a bit rougher here than in another section of the Appalachian mountain chain. In the particular setting of White Mountain, the sights are beautiful, especially in autumn when the leaves turn shades of red, orange, and yellow.

3. Green Mountain National Forest – Vermont

The Green Mountain National Forest houses the oldest long-distance trail in the United States – the Long Trail. Good name, right? One of the best parts about this particular spot is that there are no entrance fees and most of the campsites are free to use, as well! So, if you’re on a tighter budget than normal during this camping expedition, Green Mountain National Forest might be your best bet. Plus, the views are killer too.

4. Shenandoah National Park – Virginia

If you’re living in the DC area, you’ve got to check out Shenandoah National Park. It’s basically an oasis that’s only 75 miles away from the nation’s capital. There are over 500 miles of hiking trails to choose from, so you’re never going to be bored when you visit this national treasure. There are trails ranging from easier ones to more difficult ones for those of you who enjoy an adventure. Per vehicle, you’re looking at paying $20 and that’s good for a whole week, so it’s quite the deal to enjoy this beautiful reserve.

So, get packing, leave the city, and enjoy this fantastic piece of nature.

5. Minnewaska State Park Reserve – New York

Lastly, we have Minnewaska State Park Reserve in New York. Just north of NYC, this is the perfect escape for any of you who are getting a bit tired of the city life.
