Shooting apples with bows and arrows

By 26/06/2012Archery

When I tell people that I practice archery, the first thing that comes out of their mouths is something about Robin Hood, William Tell, or Cupid. Then, just like explaining that I’m not a vampire although I’m Romanian, I have to enlighten (and most often disappoint) my listeners that modern archery has nothing to do with vigilante bowmen, shooting apples off other people’s heads, or succeeding in making a girl fall in love with you.

But, every once in a while, even archers like to have fun. Take for example the challenge made by a Thai TV station to Witthaya Thamwong, an Olympian representing Thailand in the archery event at the Olympic Games in London 2012. Being one of the only 35 athletes that will bear the flag of Thailand in London, many media outlets have come to the archery field to film the Thai archer training for the Olympics.

On the spur of a moment (or, was it planned? who knows?) the TV crew asked Eak, as Witthaya is known among his friends, to prove his skills and shoot an apple at 70 meters (the official Olympic distance). It comes without saying that Eak accepted the challenge immediately and, during his break, he had a bit of fun.

Bellow you can watch the video I made on that day at Hua Mark Archery Field in Bangkok. It is the first HD video made under the “p² brand.”
