Archery, Travel and Writing as a Lifestyle: New yearly cycle starting now

The best thing I like about being a teacher is the fact that I can leave my school every day at 4pm and not worry about my job until the next day in the morning when I return on the school campus. Whenever people ask me what I do in Thailand, I almost never tell them straight away that I have a fulltime teaching job at an international school in Bangkok. I tell them I’m an archer, a writer, a traveller and when they finally gather the guts to ask me if that’s enough to make a living, I tell them, “Oh, I also have an eight to four job.”

But work does not define who I am.

It had at the beginning of my teaching career, but when I realized that there’s more out there other than pedagogy, methodology and research papers, I claimed my life back. But, and this is a big but (which is actually a huge reason why I’ve always been a teacher), in a certain way, my work does define the yearly cycle of my life.

How come?

Well, I am in a profession where I benefit from great holidays with a nice 2-month break in June and July when I usually go on a long trip abroad. For the last couple of years, on my return “home” to Bangkok, I went over the stuff that I’ve accumulated throughout the previous (academic) year and basically decluttered my wardrobe and apartment. I mean, there’s no reason to have thirty T-shirts when I only wear the same seven T-shirts week in and week out.

So, last year I got rid of all my short sleeve shirts but this year I wanted to have at least one shirt with short sleeves. After all, summers can be pretty hot in Thailand. And since I’m not a big fan of shopping and I find it extremely difficulty to go to the mall and “look for a shirt” I’ve decided to order something online.

An interior designer friend of mine suggested I have a look at ZALORA, an online fashion retailer quite popular in Southeast Asia. Their section for men’s clothing is pretty good and the website is very user friendly so I had no problems ordering a micro dotted short sleeve shirt.

It goes without saying that it looks great on me!
