It is very easy to get injured in archery… if you don’t follow the rules. There are 3 simple safety rules of archery every archer on the shooting range should follow, but there are many more safety rules which everyone should consider carefully.
One of them is with regards broken arrows. What should you do with a broken arrow? Let’s say you shoot a Robin Hood and don’t want to throw the damaged arrow away. You could make a pen out of it, you could give it to a beginner archer with a shorter drawing range than yours, or you could keep it in your quiver, damaged side pointing up with frays of carbon fiber sticking out.
Of course the first two recommendations are the safe ones while the last one is actually exactly what you shouldn’t do. Or else, you might hurt yourself or other archers. This is exactly what happened to me: I hit, by mistake, with my open palm, the damaged end of an X-10 arrow which was sticking out of my friend’s quiver.
The result: a superficial wound in the middle of my left palm and a few carbon fibers stuck under my skin. Luckily, I was able to remove all “foreign objects” from under my skin and, in the morning, the wound was already healing.
