5 destination and experiences not to be missed in Bangkok’s Asok Area

Asok junction is a huge intersection in the heart of Bangkok. It’s very popular with tourists who enjoy a wild nightlife here as well as with shoppers who find in Terminal 21 the perfect mall. There are so many things one can do in Asok and the fact that the area is served by Asok BTS Skytrain station and Sukumvit MRT Metro station makes it a very easy location to access.

Here are five things you can do and experience in Bangkok’s Asok area:

Asok

1. Have something to eat and drink at Bitter Brown

Located on Sukhumit 21 opposite Siam Society, Bitter Brown is a cozy restaurant and café that serves excellent food and great drinks. They take their coffee making seriously and not only that the taste is “bitter brown,” presentation is also a big part of their branding. If you feel like eating something before you continue your fun day in Asok, try the grilled mushroom salad and a plate of hot and spicy anchovy pasta.

While you wait for your food or enjoy your drink, you can pick up one of their English-language books or newspapers and read for a while in the quiet atmosphere of the restaurant. To reach Bitter Brown from Asok BTS Station, take Exit 5.

2. Shop till you drop at Terminal 21

Besides being a shopping mall, Terminal 21 is what you would call a “theme mall” which resembles an airport with each floor representing well-known market streets in Rome, Paris, Tokyo, London, and Istanbul. The floors can be navigated by 360 meters long escalators, one of the longest escalators in Bangkok! Every floor has stunning decorations, thus making perfect backgrounds for selfies. The iconic Oxford Street on the second floor with mini shops selling apparels and accessories is not to be missed.

Terminal 21 is conveniently located at Asok BTS Skytrain and MRT Sukumvit stations. This makes it a prime location at the heart of Bangkok City. There is a skywalk that connects to the mall directly from the MRT Sukumvit station and the BTS Asok Skytrain station.

3. Play a game of pool at Hustlers Bangkok

The best sports bar in the area also dubs as the biggest pool hall in Bangkok. Hustlers Bangkok is where pool players meet and it is also the place where one falls in love with this great pub game.

Although the pool bar scene in Bangkok is competitive, Hustlers has quite a few numbers to brag with: 11 full size Brunswick pool tables, a 380 square meters of play and chill out area, 9 big TV screens showing the latest sports action from around the world, plus the best local and international beer brands.

But what makes Hustlers Bangkok special is its great vibe with pro, amateur and occasional pool players all getting together for… well, a game of pool. Check out their highly interactive Facebook page to get a glimpse of what the atmosphere in the pool hall is like.

Hustlers Bangkok is located in the basement of Times Square Building and it can be accessed directly from the skywalk from Asok BTS station. You’ll never get wet going to Hustlers in the rainy season.

4. Go wild at Insanity Nightclub

One of the best clubs to go dancing in Bangkok is Insanity Nightclub, a vibrant place located on Sukhumvit Soi 12, immediately after Hustlers Bangkok. The atmosphere inside is just crazy with people really knowing how to have fun. There’s a plethora of DJs who regularly heat up the night with different music genres including bass-heavy house, hip-hop, R&B and EDM. Exotic podium dancers, a central stage and dance floor plus a loud sound system makes Insanity the place to let your wild side loose.

Check out their website to find out which DJ is up tonight and what upcoming events they have in store. Don’t miss the MMA Fight Nights!

5. Walk on Soi Cowboy

A destination that needs no introduction, Soi Cowboy is a place that brings Thailand a notoriety few officials really want to talk about. Regardless of your feelings and acceptance of what happens on this really short side alley, visiting Soi Cowboy is a great exercise in anthropology. The mixture of lust, greed, and curiosity makes it an amazing study in the nature of human existence.

If you stopped by at Bitter Brown for food and drinks, then walk back towards the BTS station. Soi Cowboy will be on your left and there’s no chance you’ll miss it.

Bangkok’s Asok area has a lot to offer and you could have just an amazing day by following our itinerary. Start your day with a drink and a snack at Bitter Brown, go shopping at Terminal 21, play pool at Hustlers, dance at Insanity, and call it a day with a stroll on Soi Cowboy.
