9th Anniversary Sale at Dasa Books in Bangkok

My favourite secondhand bookstore in Thailand, Dasa Books, is celebrating its 9th anniversary this month with the biggest sale of the year. Until March 31st, all books will be discounted 20% off the regular price. If you have books to exchange and are buying more books, you can also receive the discount. This offer can also be applied to any mail orders in March 2013. Books on the discount “Blowout” table in front of the store, however, are not be part of the sale.

Many books from Dasa have made their way down the coast of Phuket thanks to two hotels that are now providing books for their guests. The Regent Phuket in Cape Panwa and the Avista Hideway Phuket have both recently made large purchases of books from Dasa.

In local book news, hardcover copies of The Book of Answers by Bangkok-based writer C.Y. Gopinath are now for sale in Thailand. This novel was shortlisted for the 2012 Commonwealth Book Prize. Dasa does not have any copies of this book, but new copies are available in local chain bookshops.

Crime Wave Press, founded by Bangkok-based writers Tom Vater and Hans Kemp, also has some new titles this quarter, one of which is a re-release of a “Father Ananda” mystery novel by Nick Wilgus. Originally titled The Garden of Hell, this second book in the series has been retitled Sister Suicide and sports new cover artwork. Their partner imprint, Visionary World, also has a new title in April, Burmese Light, a deluxe coffee table-sized book with stunning photographs by Hans and lively text by Tom.

Also, more good news: during the upcoming Songkran holidays in mid-April, Dasa Books will remain open, keeping regular business hours, daily from 10 am till 8 pm. They never seem to close so you can visit them on location in Bangkok (between Sukhumvit Soi 26 and 28).

You can also stay in touch with them on their Facebook Fan Page.
