Last year I was in Taiwan for more than a month and Typhoon Matmo struck the island. This year, the same thing has happened! Here are 5 things you should know about Typhoon Chan-hom:
- The typhoon is expected to barely touch the northern part of Taiwan but then it will make landfall in Zhejiang province in China.
- Preparations are well underway in Taiwan; schools and public institutions are officially closed today, Friday 10th, 2015. Private businesses, such as 7-Eleven convenience stores, are still open.
- Reports from Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau suggest that Taiwan will be saved from the wrath of Chan-hom but the island nation will still be affected by heavy rain and strong winds.
- Until now, 23 people have been injured by Typhoon Chan-hom.
- Early on Friday morning the typhoon hit the islands of Okinawa and Miyako with winds travelling as fast as 234 km/h.
