“Cyber crime and copyright infringements tend to be prevalent in Thailand.” – Interview with Bangkok-based security expert Aaron Le Boutillier

Aaron-le-boutillier-security-expertAaron Le Boutillier is the Managing Director of LBG Security and Investigations, a company specialized in improving businesses’ security procedures, enhancing staff training, and reducing the risk of fraud and financial losses. In this interview he highlights some of the solutions LBS provides.

What is your background in this business?

I started in the security business in Japan in 1993 where I was working in Roppongi. Based on those colorful experiences, I decided to join the UK Police. From there I entered corporate security in 2000.

What was the concept behind LBG when you first started the company?

My first concept was to secure a work permit for Thailand and for my Singapore branch to make me all my money! However, it did not take long to realize that there was a huge market for corporate security services in Bangkok.

Has this mission changed or expanded since then?

From the early days the focus was on defensive tactics training and aviation security, but since then the company has move into corporate investigations, crisis management and security alert services

How important is it for business owners these days to make sure they have a Business Continuity Plan?

It is now as important as having a solid business plan or a solid marketing plan. Any business entering into 2015 without a robust crisis management plan that has a solid business continuity plan are risking their business and assets. It is also not just a question of having one, it must be tested!

What solutions can you offer to companies that have been affected by white-collar crimes?

White-collar crimes tend to fall into the basic fraud, Ponzi schemes, embezzlement and, of course, cyber crime and copyright infringements that tend to be prevalent in Thailand. One also notices a tendency for certain departments to be more likely to commit these types of crime, such as payroll fraud will always be traced back to the accounts department.

How can you help hotels minimize the risk of criminal activities within their premises?

A thorough risk and threat assessment is always a good place to start and also a thorough audit of current systems to give them a base line of where they’re at and what needs to be done to “raise the bar.” Plus a overview of CCTV and access control systems is always a good place to start too.

How can LBG be of help when a business goes through a crisis?

We offer all the necessary parts in a crisis: to ensure everyone remains “cool,” be it in the form of training, on the ground information needed in real time to make the right decisions, all the way to a post brief of any event to ensure that lessons have been learned and as a result current procedures improved on. It is a continual learning curve.
